“Illinois is going to be a huge market. I want to be on the shelves come January 1”
Jim Belushi has announced plans to take his cannabis brand, Blues Brothers, national. The 65-year-old aims to sell products in retail stores once cannabis is legalized in his home state of Illinois.
Already a well-established player in the American cannabis market, Belushi owns a 93-acre farm, Belushi’s Farm, and has produced and sold weed in Oregon since it was legalized in 2014.
Despite living in Los Angeles, California for years, Belushi wants in on the pot business in his former stomping ground. “Illinois is going to be a huge market,” Belushi told Crain’s Chicago Business. “I want to be on the shelves come January 1.”
The actor intends to establish growing facilities in California and Nevada — two other states where recreational cannabis is legal — and is teaming up with Live Nation, California-based concert producer, to create a reality show based on his canna-business.
