The celebrities are at it again. Thankfully, though, they are not singing this time.
To raise money for Reform Alliance, an organization dedicated to reforming the U.S. criminal justice system, and CORE, a non-profit co-founded by Sean Penn that is currently administering COVID-19 tests across the U.S., a star-studded cast gathered for a virtual table read of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Morgan Freeman led the group during the read-through, which included Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, John Legend, Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey and, of course, Penn, who starred as stoner Jeff Spicoli in the original film.
Spicoli’s role was read by Shia LaBeouf, who, as he is wont to do, really committed to the part — spending the hour-long, read-through seated in his truck smoking weed.
LaBeouf makes his entrance as Pitt, who is reading the lines of squeaky-clean high school senior Brad Hamilton, originally played by Judge Reinhold, chastises him for removing his shirt while inside an All American Burger.
LaBeouf, in a situation he has likely encountered in real life, gets a laugh from Pitt and Penn as he gets increasingly worked up about having to put his shirt back on.
LaBeouf keeps it up from there, sweating heavily and continuously smoking and stealing the show as he stays in his garage on the Zoom-call, even breaking character at one point to let out a laugh of his own.
