Shoppers Drug Mart has added a new company to its growing medical cannabis online store.
On Sept. 12, MOOD Global Group Inc. announced that it had entered into a supply agreement with the pharmacy/retail chain to sell their cannabis accessories online.
“We are extremely pleased that Shoppers Drug Mart has chosen our line of premium MOOD products for sale on the medical cannabis section of their website,” said MOOD CEO Ken Tran in a press release.
Mood specializes in airtight stash jars, storage boxes, and accessories like grinders. They also offer a voice-activated storage unit that can be connected to Apple and Android devices.
The Shoppers website currently offers MOOD’s stash jars and one storage box.
In January, Shoppers launched their medical cannabis store, which features strains from 11 suppliers. Since the site only serves medical customers, potential shoppers have to register for an account, and provide a medical document — not exactly a prescription, but authorization from a doctor or nurse for a patient to use cannabis — either submitted online or at a Shoppers location. The order can then be shipped to a personal address or to a local pharmacy.
Shoppers also said in a press release the site has a virtual care centre where customers can go for help or additional questions.
“As trusted medication experts, pharmacists have an important role to play in the safe and informed use of medical cannabis,” said Shoppers Drug Mart president Jeff Leger at the time.
Since Shoppers can’t yet offer cannabis products in-store, critics have said that the online store doesn’t differentiate itself enough from the many other options to purchase cannabis online, and might have less information on different strains than other sources.
