It’s TIFF 2019, and we’ve got the scoop on which celebrities have once enjoyed the devil’s lettuce.
The Toronto International Film Festival is in town, and we’ve got the scoop on which celebrities have once enjoyed the devil’s lettuce. Here are seven celebrities starring in movies at TIFF, who you may not have known were once 420-friendly.
7. Susan Sarandon
This Academy Award-winning actress is a bona fide marijuana mom. Sarandon stars in Blackbird at this year’s TIFF, and is pretty open about her weed use.
When asked on Watch What Happens Live, to name a Hollywood event where she showed up stoned, she replied, “Only one? I would say almost all except the Oscars.”
With that said, Sarandon says she’s never worked or filmed high.
6. Matt Damon
In fact, this action movie star’s first time trying weed was actually with his parents. Damon stars in Ford v Ferrari at TIFF 2019, and seems to have had his first toke under parental supervision.
According to Paper, the Oscar-winning actor’s mom and stepdad said to him, “If you are going to do this, we’d rather you did this with us.”
5. Kristen Stewart
In Stewart’s case, she was caught smoking weed.
The actress is starring in Seberg at TIFF, but in her Twilight days her marijuana use caused a stir. In 2008, around Twilight’s release, Stewart was photographed by the paparazzi smoking out of a glass piece on a porch.
“The next day, it was like I was a delinquent, slimy idiot,” Stewart told Vanity Fair. “Whereas I’m kind of a weirdo, creative Valley Girl who smokes pot. Big deal.”
4. The Weeknd
Music superstar The Weeknd being into marijuana might not be too surprising.
The Grammy winner will be starring in Uncut Gems at TIFF this year, but he’s alluded to smoking weed in several songs – like “Kiss Land,” and “Rolling Stone.”
3. Natalie Portman
You may not know that back in her university days, this Oscar and Golden Globe winner was quite the stoner. “I love stoner comedies. I smoked weed in college, but I haven’t smoked in years,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly.
Portman stars in Lucy In The Sky at TIFF 2019, but has since left her marijuana days in the past.
“I’m too old. I wish I was that cool, but I’m like an old lady now.” she told EW. “I can’t do that anymore.”
2. Cardi B
The rapper, who stars in the film Hustlers at this year’s TIFF – used to smoke weed at one point. In a video posted to her Instagram, Cardi B let fans in on how her first weed experience went awry.
“I took three pulls of a blunt,” she said to fans on Instagram, “I got so paranoid. I told the guy to go get me some water, and then I ran out of his crib, I went downstairs and I started screaming like, ‘Yo! Somebody’s trying to kill me!’”
However, the Grammy-winning rapper no longer uses marijuana, as she let fans know on Instagram as well.
1. Chris Evans
Yes, Captain America used to love indulging in some cannabis. In a profile by TheHollywood Reporter, Evans said he used to love weed – but has scaled back on the green in recent years. You can catch Evans in Knives Out, at TIFF this year, but you won’t catch him smoking.
“I used to love it, but now I think it’s the one thing that gets in my way. It zaps your motivation,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
